Hmm luxury... well propably just what anyone else calls civilisation.
As we mentioned earlier we had Mama and Papa hippo here last week. The visit af two more mzungues gave us the opportunity of having a bit of a vacation, and acting as turists here in Western Tanzanias Kigoma region. THey came here to the hospital and visited us for a two days and then we went of a nice drive up north, ending up down in Kigoma ready for a trip to Gombe National Park.
Gombe is just two hours boatride from Kigoma, this being on a very local not so fast boat. But a very fascinating and beautiful ride it was, with the morningsun shining on us and the mountains of DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) in the far distance. Gombe NP is known for its Chimps and the research done there over the past 4 decades.
And chimps we saw...heaps and heaps, we will not get into it explaning it, just wait for the photoes and videos when we get home. But it truely was great!
After Mama and Papa Hippo left, we stayed in Kigoma in a hotel for 2 days. We spend the first night drinking WINE and eating alot of CHEESE in a not so fancy hotel, - it did not have any shower, but it had a private beach and more importantly they let us use the fridge to keep the wine and cheese cold!
The second day of civilisation we upgraded our selves to the best you get in Kigoma, KIgoma Hilltop Hotel (still only 80 USD for at doubleroom). And it was nice: shower... and it had hot water!, pool, mosquitonets without holes, very nice beds with clean WHITE sheets, a decent restaurant, fridge and TV in the room, balcony overlooking the lake and we do know some of you would not have missed it as much as we have done, but there was a GYM (it was little and almost not functioning, but it was there and we used it!). So we spent 24 hours doing nothing but pampering our selves. AND we liked it!!!!
Tuesday we got back to hospital, unpacked and got back to work as usual.
Since we got back home the rainy season have started, and it means that all the creepy animals are moving into our house, which you can imagine how much we love!!! (NOT)!. ...rumours talk of a black mamba and a Cobra, but we have not seen any - yet!
The Hippo and the Giraffe:)
